Yesterday I headed down Borrowdale with the aim of popping up on to Dale Head for sunset. The main goal was that magnificent view down the Newlands valley, hopefully with some lovely evening sunlight on a snow capped Skiddaw.
That didn’t quite work out, as I found myself in thick cloud and flutters of snow, with only brief glimpses down into the valley below.
It wasn’t quite a futile photographic outing, as I was sufficiently distracted by some lovely conditions over Derwent Water to stop and shoot there for a while en route.
A brief burst of sunlight illuminated St Herbert’s island with a gentle orange glow, and the backlit view down to Castle Crag and the jaws of Borrowdale almost had a misty aura about it.
