Great Langdale, Side Pike and Blea Tarn Photo Walk

This photo walk begins in the dramatic Langdale Valley, one of the finest in the Lake District, and takes in rugged fell views and the iconic and oft – photographed Blea Tarn.

Starting at the famous Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel, we make an ascent of the craggy little hill of Side Pike, which affords classic panoramic views of the Great Langdale and Mickleden Valleys, and the surrounding fells of Pike O’ Blisco, Crinkle Crags, Bowfell and the Langdale Pikes.

Then carrying on up onto Lingmoor Fell, the photographic opportunities stretch in all directions, with the Coniston Fells opening up on one side and differing views of the Langdale Pikes on the other.

It’s then a drop down to Blea Tarn for one of the Lake District’s most famous waterside views, before we return back to the Old Dungeon Ghyll.

Photo walks are ideal for beginners looking to learn more about some of the basics of photography in a relaxed and informal environment, or those looking to get more from their camera by not relying on point and shoot automatic modes.

Those with digital SLRs, compact system cameras or bridge cameras will get most out of the day, as point and shoot compacts are limited in their scope for manual control and creativity.

The walk will begin at 8.00am, and finish at approximately 1 pm.

Distance: Approximately 4.5 miles

Difficulty: Easy/moderate. No problems for those used to walking the fells, but for those that aren’t you do need to be reasonably fit, and there are some rocky paths and a tight squeeze on Side Pike.

The cost of the day is £35 per person, and there are a maximum of six places available on this photo walk.
