I am now running photography workshops and courses in the Lake District. A one to one basis tends to provide maximum benefit and dedicated tuition time, however two people or small groups can be accommodated if you’d like to bring along fellow keen photographers, friends or partners.
My work is regularly featured in national magazines and guidebooks, and I am a contributor to Practical Photography, Outdoor Photography and Country Walking amongst others.
The workshops can be tailored to suit individual requirements, however a typical day would involve a short low level walk amongst the Lake District scenery, or even a high level mountain walk should you wish, covering some of the finest viewpoints in the country and any other photographic opportunities that arise depending on the light and weather conditions.
I will also be scheduling more specific courses for small groups on various dates throughout the year, keep an eye on the news page for these.
Basic technical aspects of exposure such as ISO, aperture and shutter speed will be covered as much as is needed depending on the individual, as well as approaches to other aspects of photography including light and composition.
The workshops are ideal for those with a love of the Lake District in general, and have an interest in improving their photography. The day will be taken entirely at your own pace, however if going on a higher level route you will need to be relatively fit and used to walking such terrain.
If you want to cover a particular mountain or area this can be arranged, however I have been walking the Lake District fells for almost 30 years and will happily put together an itinerary if you have no preference as to location.
You don’t need to own a high end digital SLR, but you should have a camera with the ability to take control over aperture, shutter speed etc.
Half Day Workshops
A half day (approx 4 hours) costs £70, or £100 for two people, and can take place at any time during the day – for example an evening session can be timed to catch sunset.
Full Day Workshops
A full day (approx. 8 hrs, though this may be limited by hours of daylight during winter months) costs £120, or £150 for two people.
Please contact me for a quote for larger group sizes.
Wild Camping Workshops
For those looking for a more committed photographic adventure, why not try a wild camping workshop?
Nothing beats waking on a mountain with lighting conditions most people never get to see, views no 5 star hotel in the world could beat, the added bonus of no fellow guests, and help capturing it all successfully on camera.
However, the success of these little adventures can be very weather dependent, so it’s best to have a couple of dates in mind before you book.
The tutorial is all about the photography aspect of the experience, so you will need your own tent and camping gear and ideally have wild camped before –however, if you have the gear but haven’t had the nerve to go out on a wild camping trip, this could be for you.
A 2 day/1 night workshop with an overnight camp on the fells costs £175, or £220 for two people. This typically includes a late afternoon walk to the chosen camp, catching the evening light and hopefully a dramatic sunset and sunrise the next morning before heading back down to civilisation.
To book a workshop, or if you have any queries, please email or phone 07872 429826.
If you would like to give the gift of a workshop for a special occasion, you can purchase one via the gift vouchers page.
Please note a deposit will be required to secure your booking, refundable up until a week prior to the date of the workshop should you need to cancel for unavoidable reasons.
