Fiddler’s View

And what a view. When seen from the north, Sgurr an Fhidhlier is a fearsome looking 500m tall prow of rock.

However, approaching via the usual route of ascent from the south near Achiltibuie there's scant suggestion of what is to come. Steep boggy beginnings give way to a gentle climb over sandy grassy moorland, with only the view back over the Summer Isles behind you to pique the interest.

Then, all of a sudden, deposited on the airy summit with the ground falling away precipitously on three sides, you're confronted with the astonishing view north over Assynt's isolated monoliths.
