Winter settles

So far this winter we’ve had 2 isolated days of snow in the Lake District before a rapid thaw.

However, as of this weekend it feels like winter has actually arrived, kicked off its shoes, pulled up a chair and settled in for a while.

I had a rather wild walk up Sticks Pass on to White Side and then on to Helvellyn via Lower Man before beating a hasty retreat. The wind was around a constant 50mph and the snow already solid and iced over in places, so the crampons I chucked in the bag as an afterthought were essential.

The forecast is for it to stay cold for at least the next few days, and plenty more snow will have fallen at higher levels today, so expect more of the same!
